We will cover principles of research design and research ethics as they apply to text-based social science research, and will review the major methodologies within social science text mining, including topic models and opinion mining. Course Objectives: Our goals for the course are to survey major contemporary approaches to social science text mining and for students to develop a preliminary text mining research project of their own. Prerequisites: None. However, experience with social science research methods and research design is preferred.
